SEO Process - Simplified (figure 1)

1. Technology / Code Check: This part of the SEO process deals with any on page or off page factors that could obviously hinder the ability of a site to gain rankings.

2. Keyword Analysis: The process in which the SEO consultant and customer work together to find keywords that not only describe the product / service offered but also assess if those keywords are being used by potential customers or indeed at all.

3. Site Optimisation Plan: SEO consultant will plan out the necessary work, this will include ‘matching’ keywords to content or advising customer that there may need to be more content added to support some of the keywords (etc.).

4. Site Optimisation: The search engine optimisation work is then carried out; good SEO consultants will take a back up of the site at this stage of the SEO process.

5. Monitor Search Engine Rankings: Depending on what type of work you have commissioned from the SEO consultant or SEO company, they may either check and report on your rankings on a regular basis or at least let you know how you can monitor your own rankings with a good analytics package (Google offer a respectable one that is free )

6. Re-optimisation: It is an important part of the SEO process to constantly monitor your web site rankings and make changes if any aspect of the SEO process is not working, for example you may well be ranking very well for a keyword but if you are not receiving any traffic for that keyword then it is perhaps not an effective keyword and may need to be changed, in which case the SEO process can be repeated with a new keyword or set of keywords.
